Do athletes really use their skills outside of the game? Athletes are known for being super competitive and hard working, but can they really succeed in the world?
According to IMG Academy, “many successful employees played sports as kids, and the characteristics that they bring to the workplace can partly be attributed to their time as an athlete.” Students who have played sports have developed an understanding of leadership. By playing sports, athletes take on leadership roles themselves within their teams. By becoming leaders it builds confidence which is vital in the workplace.
Senior Addis Tafese believes that sports have helped him with many working skills such as communication and motivation.“I play soccer so you’re always leading your teammates where to go and when to get the ball,” said Tafese.
Kids who participate in sports teams learn communication skills. Students learn to work together and that everyone on their team works hard towards the same goal. Having communication, determination and leadership help build a good athlete .“A good athlete is someone who never gives up and they do all the extra work like working on their skills outside of practice and going to the gym on their own and putting in all of the extra stuff ‚going above and beyond,” said senior Meghan Healy. These various skills that athletes have acquired throughout the years of playing sports have helped them create a better working environment.
