Deidra Ander­son is the new career special­ist at Justice High School. For six years, Ander­son worked for a large non-profit orga­ni­za­tion, where she provided IT cyber secu­rity train­ing to people between the ages of 18 and 24. She collab­o­rated with commu­nity part­ners to enlist their assis­tance in help­ing young indi­vid­u­als discover their profes­sional paths and destiny. Ander­son had also previ­ously worked on a few contracts for vari­ous orga­ni­za­tions to support the career prepared­ness and work­force devel­op­ment strat­egy. Ander­son’s passion to see people achieve their aspi­ra­tions and reach their full poten­tial had inspired her to pursue a path as a career specialist.

Anderson’s advice for students who are having trou­ble obtain­ing a job is to check on Naviance. If you click on the “Careers” section on Naviance, you can take several assess­ments that’ll suggest career paths.

Ander­son suggests that if you’re inter­ested in attend­ing college, make sure you’re talk­ing to your parents about it. She suggests visit­ing new schools to have a better idea of where you want to go after high school.

“Just keep an open mind,” said Ander­son. “The more options you have, the more oppor­tu­ni­ties you have.”
