Teens all across the world use screens. They use them in schools, homes, libraries, practically anywhere. There have been many studies showing negative and positive outcomes to excessive screen time in just a week. Many students have stated they do not have negative effects from screen time, but studies show different.
Screen time is a big problem for students. It has brought many challenges and opportunities for teens. There have been many studies on the effects of screen time, both positive and negative. Studies show teens spend more than 4 hours on screens daily. Of course with the excessive screen time, there will be effects.
Hahn, an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, says “When you walk around now you notice that nobody’s actually looking straight ahead and making eye contact, instead everyone is walking and looking down at their phone. This is how society has evolved,” Professionals are warning us about the overuse of screens.
Santos Viecente Cortez, a freshman at Justice High School, states “I don’t spend a bunch of time on a screen, because I go to the gym everyday.” He also said “I get good sleep, and sleep very early.” According to experts, he should have been on a screen for more than 4 hours because he has many opportunities to be on a screen, but he doesn’t take it.
With 75% of teens having smartphones, it makes it easier to be on a screen anytime and anywhere. There will be effects in posture, mood, and sleep. With experts and teens saying different things, what do you think?
